Project Engineer - Calculation

Your role
What does a project engineer – calculation do at the Atlas Copco Group in Wilrijk? As a calculation project engineer in our Energy Conversion Solutions team (Oil-Free Air division), you will leverage your theoretical acumen and mathematical models to analyze, size, and optimize functional machine subsystems. You will follow projects from initial concept and lab prototype through to series production, collaborating with project leaders, local engineering teams, and international facilities in locations such as India and China.
Your daily flow involves defining technical specifications for mechanical and thermodynamic systems, running calculations to expedite machine design (heat/energy transfer, fluid mechanics, efficiencies, strength, vibrations), and developing virtual models toward full digital twins. You partner closely with dedicated CFD and FEA teams by defining boundary conditions and evaluating simulation outcomes. Additionally, you define test programs, monitor prototype testing, analyze field installation data, and apply international standards (ISO, CE, PED, ASME). When quality or performance issues arise in production or the field, you troubleshoot root causes and implement data-backed solutions while securing and sharing acquired knowledge. You will work via our hybrid model at our facility in Wilrijk.
