GAP_Engineer_Machine Diagnostic

Your Role

The Machine Diagnostic Engineer is a field-based specialist responsible for assessing marine compressor packages and related rotating equipment through on-site data collection, diagnostic analysis, and failure investigation. The role provides objective findings and technical recommendations to support safe operation, maintenance and overhaul planning, warranty assessments, and rapid recovery.

Your day-to-day

• Plan and perform on-site diagnostic activities for marine compressor packages and other rotating equipment, including commissioning, baseline measurements, periodic inspections, and post-repair verification.
• Collect, interpret, and evaluate condition-monitoring data such as vibration, temperature, pressure, operating trends, and visual observations to assess machine health and identify potential failures.
• Diagnose faults, assess operational risks, and communicate critical findings to customers and technical teams, recommending appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
• Develop comprehensive diagnostic reports detailing findings, severity assessments, limitations, and recommendations, while supporting failure investigations, warranty evaluations, repair planning, and escalations.
• Ensure diagnostic equipment is properly maintained and calibrated, maintain high-quality records and data traceability, and apply established diagnostic methodologies and standards.
• Adhere to all safety, vessel, shipyard, and customer requirements during field assignments, and contribute to technical capability development through training, case sharing, and continuous improvement activities.

Your skills and experience

• Bachelor’s degree or technical qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline, with strong knowledge of rotating equipment, compressors, drive systems, lubrication systems, and associated auxiliaries.
• Solid understanding of vibration analysis, condition monitoring, fault diagnosis, failure analysis, and diagnostic reporting. Certification such as ISO 18436-2 Vibration Condition Monitoring and Diagnostics is considered a strong advantage.
• Minimum of five years of experience in machine diagnostics, reliability engineering, condition monitoring, maintenance, commissioning, or field service, with hands-on experience collecting and analyzing vibration and operational data.
• Proven ability to identify and assess rotating machinery issues, including unbalance, misalignment, looseness, bearing failures, resonance, and lubrication-related problems. Experience supporting investigations, overhauls, dry-dockings, and post-repair verification is beneficial.
• Familiarity with diagnostic software, ERP systems, technical documentation tools, and Microsoft 365 applications. Good written and spoken English skills with the ability to clearly communicate technical findings, measured facts, and recommendations.
• Safety-focused, methodical, and customer-oriented professional with strong attention to data quality, the ability to work independently under demanding field conditions, and willingness to travel internationally and work onboard vessels while collaborating effectively with customers and global stakeholders.
