MISSION

Reporting to the Vice President – Medical Gas Construction Services, the Medical Gas Construction Manager manages large, complex jobs and/or multiple construction projects from pre-booking to customer acceptance.  This position supervises, directs, and motivates the Construction Project Team during planning, estimating, design, installation, start-up, commissioning, turnover, and warranty of projects in their assigned region.  The Construction Manager ensures a high level of customer satisfaction during and at final project completion promoting the Class 1 Inc. standard of excellence – keeping us “First in Mind, First in Choice.”

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides leadership, vision and direction for the Construction Project Team and assigned employees including training where necessary.
  • Participates in pre-bid reviews and sales to operations turnover meetings, with respective Project Team, to evaluate accuracy of the sales estimate and job layout.
  • Analyzes plans, construction contract specifications, and codes to determine project requirements and execute take-offs.
  • Follows up with appropriate management to assure understanding and satisfaction of job scope.
  • Manages the development of project plans in advance of project activity assuring effective execution by the Project Team.
  • Monitors progress to assure compliance with the pre-determined execution plan.
  • Prepares or oversees preparation of engineering regarding estimate drawings, correspondence, etc.
  • Works with Project Team to monitor, manage and control project costs, review on weekly and monthly basis.
  • Perform progress billing and timely invoicing of customers based on Percentage of Completion of Projects.
  • Obtains bids and selects reliable subcontractors to provide wiring, device installation, special construction or other services as necessary.
  • Participates in job site final walk-thru and manages the completion of all close-out documentation such as: “As-Built” drawings and system operating instructions; transfers or excess materials; billings, collections, and payments; and all project records.
  • Ensures company policies and procedures are understood and followed.
  • Initiates and/or participates in estimate, design and/or installation Production / Project Team status meetings.
  • Coordinate with all departments to ensure all project objectives are achieved as scheduled.
  • Produce or obtain AutoCAD design, construction, installation drawings and other reports as required for project success.
  • Provide project performance audit updates to Finance Department for costing and invoicing purposes.
  • Manage on-site corrective action procedures and spearhead resolution of project issues or client care concerns.
  • Report details of customer complaints to management and participate in corrective action process.
  • Network with other departments to provide Project Team support for interdivisional projects.
  • Report any health and safety incidents from field to HR Manager for reporting procedures.
  • Interfacing with contractors, consulting engineers, and end use customers.
  • Responsible for sustainable, profitable, growth of their respective region.
  • Review of construction contracts with involvement of Atlas Copco North America legal team.
  • Responsible for weekly review and approval of labour hours and expense claims.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.

 

LOCATION AND TRAVEL

 

  • Based in Camrbidge, Ontario, Canada
  • Occasional domestic travel to customer job sites and for shadowing/training purposes

The Medical Gas Construction Manager will be a customer oriented, team-player with a positive and professional demeanor in interactions with customers, Project Team members, and industry peers. A strong attention to detail and documentation is critical while balancing multiple project deliverables. It is essential for the Construction Manager to be inquisitive, outgoing, and influential to drive negotiations and motivate the team members toward achievement of project goals.

 

KNOWLEDGE

  • Keen understanding of medical gas construction concepts
  • Experience with CAN / CSA Standard Z7396.1-17 (Medical Gas Pipeline Systems)
  • Proficient in ERP Software (SAP preferred)
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (including Excel)
  • Bilingual in English & French (speaking and writing) considered an asset

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Superior oral and written communication skills as well as skilled at negotiation and sales
  • Superior project management capabilities (long term projects)
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving methodology to be able to identify solutions to customer problems
  • Attention to detail and strong reading comprehension skills
  • Ability to read electrical blueprints, colour-coded controls schematics, and as built drawings an asset
  • Comfortable learning new software systems
