Materials Manager
Your role
To lead and manage all warehouse, third-party logistics (3PL), and logistics operations, while developing and driving the strategic direction of the function. The role ensures efficient inbound and outbound flows, high stock accuracy, and compliant shipping processes across internal and outsourced warehousing operations, leveraging both manual processes and AutoStore automation. The position also carries full responsibility for cost control, supplier performance management, and proactive risk management to ensure operational resilience and business continuity.
Main Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with all company health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
- Develop and implement the warehouse and logistics strategy aligned with wider business objectives.
- Develop and manage the warehouse and logistics budget, ensuring alignment with business goals.
- Monitor and control operational costs including labour, transport, storage, and third-party logistics services.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate operational risks across warehouse and logistics activities.
- Manage day-to-day warehouse operations across both company-operated facilities and third-party logistics (3PL) warehouses, including storage, replenishment, picking, packing, and dispatch.
- Manage outbound shipping activities, including domestic and international shipments.
- Maintain high levels of stock accuracy across internal warehouses, 3PL facilities, ERP/WMS platforms, and AutoStore systems.
- Lead, coach, and develop warehouse and logistics teams.
- Collaborate with procurement, planning, production, and customer service teams.
To succeed, you will need
Proven experience in warehouse and logistics management.Strong experience in risk management, compliance, and operational resilience.
Experience managing budgets and cost control.
Experience with automated systems (AutoStore or similar).
Strong strategic thinking with ability to translate into operational delivery.
Expertise in inbound logistics, inventory control, and shipping/export processes.
Experience with ERP/WMS systems and reporting tools.
Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
Continuous improvement mindset (Lean / Six Sigma desirable).
