Customs Specialist

Your role
As a Customs Specialist within our Transport Department, you will play a crucial role in ensuring smooth and compliant customs operations for both inbound and outbound shipments. You will act as a key liaison between our company and various external partners such as customs brokers, freight forwarders, and government agencies, managing these relationships with a focus on compliance, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
Your responsibilities will include:
- leading post-entry audits for customs brokers
- Advising on improvements and corrective actions
- Conducting detailed tariff classification reviews for imported parts.
- You will monitor regulatory updates and adjust relevant systems and documentation accordingly, ensuring that our trade compliance remains current and effective.
Additional duties include:
- Management and oversight of Partner Government Agency interactions
- Supporting Free Trade Agreement processes from qualification to certification
- Maintaining internal standard operating procedures.
- You will support audits, compliance requests, and the ongoing enhancement of trade compliance tools, contributing to organization-wide projects alongside the Transportation and Trade Compliance Managers.
Reporting and documentation will also be key components of your role, ensuring accurate record keeping of import/export filings and performance metrics. Your proactive engagement in continuous improvement initiatives and ability to cross-support team members will underpin our commitment to operational excellence and regulatory adherence.
You will report directly to the Transportation Manager and be an integral part of the North American Service Center’s customs and trade compliance operations, contributing to the organization's success by ensuring global trade activities meet all legal and internal standards.
To succeed, you will need
To excel in this role, you should possess a strong foundation in international trade regulations, import/export compliance, and customs procedures. Effective communication skills and a detail-oriented mindset will be essential as you navigate complex regulatory environments and collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders.
- A relevant Bachelor's or Master’s degree, or equivalent professional experience in international business, trade, logistics, or related fields.
- Familiarity with import/export controls, customs classifications, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience with SAP and proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities, analytical thinking, and capacity to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- An eagerness to learn and adapt within an evolving trade compliance landscape; a Licensed Customs Broker credential is advantageous but not mandetory

Hybrid: This role offers a flexible hybrid working arrangement, allowing you to balance remote work with in-person collaboration.
