Your role
The Sales Application Engineer's mission is to bridge the gap between complex technical products and the customer needs, acting as a trusted advisor to support sales by understanding client challenges, demonstrating product value, providing technical expertise for solutions (proposals, demos, installations), and giving crucial feedback to R&D, ultimately driving sales and ensuring customer satisfaction. They translate business requirements into technical solutions, train sales teams, and build strong relationships by explaining technical concepts in understandable terms.
Product Areas of responsibility will cover:
- HDR (Halogenated Drug Recovery)
- CDU (Central Destruction Unit)
- Abatement systems
- Mechanical Space products (Air and Vacuum systems)
Core Responsibilities:
You will have a dotted line to the Area Sales Manager for sales development business.
Technical Consultation: Explain complex product features and how they solve specific customer problems.
Product Demonstration: Conduct technical demos, proofs of concept (POCs), and proofs of value (POVs).
Customer Support: Assist with installations, troubleshooting, and optimizing software/hardware applications.
Sales Enablement: Train sales teams, create technical proposals, and provide application advice.
Market Feedback: Relay customer needs and market trends back to product development.
To succeed, you will need
Strong engineering background (software, mechanical, electrical, etc.)
Excellent communication and presentation skills (explaining technical concepts to non-technical people).
Problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Interpersonal skills for building customer relationships.
Provide in depth technical knowledge relating to these products and applications to members of the sales team, including presenting relevant information during sales meetings, conference calls, public seminars, and product demonstrations.
You will work closely with the Area Sales Manager in pre-sales cycles, in conjunction with the Global Product manager for Abatement technologies and engage after initial prospect identification to handle technical validation and submittal
Output measurement
Builds customer confidence by proving the product works in their environment. Increases sales effectiveness by removing technical roadblocks, and drives product improvement through direct customer feedback
Installation support for UK and EU
• Major project documentation coordination to assist field Installations
• Project component tracking – products from suppliers or the product company
• Drawing co-ordination for products and layouts if required, design of systems
• Quotes from suppliers
• Spare Parts management
Education/Qualifications
Degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or equivalent experience in applications for medical, breathing and laboratory compressed air and gas, vacuum technology
Knowledge, experience & background
Experience in application engineering
Full UK driving licence
You will be an independent self starter, with excellent organisational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication, analytical with problem-solving skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD experience is an advantage
You will be able to read pneumatic/hydraulic flow diagrams and general arrangement drawings
Understanding of electrical drawings is an advantage
