Your role

As a Quality/Failure Analysis Engineer (Q/FAE) at Edwards Vacuum Technology Ireland Ltd, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the Service Technology Centre (STC) consistently maintains compliance with international standards including ISO9001:2015, ISO14001, ISO45001, and Vacuum Technique Quality standards. Your focus on reliability, repeatability, and safety enables the identification and implementation of proactive continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing process across the EMEA region.

You will represent the STC in conducting comprehensive failure analyses on all products in the region. Your responsibilities will include failure identification, root cause analysis, detailed investigation, and the delivery of accurate, timely reports emphasizing safety and quality standards. You will work closely with the Quality Manager STC EMEA and cross-functional teams to uphold quality excellence.

  • Drive reductions in defective components, process inefficiencies, and warranty expenses by implementing robust quality assurance methodologies.
  • Support ongoing compliance and continuous enhancement of ISO9001 Quality Management Systems alongside ISO14001 Environmental and ISO45001 Health & Safety Management Systems, adapting these frameworks to local regulatory requirements where necessary.
  • Champion the Vacuum Technique Production System, reinforcing behaviours aligned with 6S principles and facilitating targeted training sessions for operational staff.
  • Coordinate and communicate vital information including Service Information Bulletins (SIB), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and Global Service Group (GSG) updates to ensure the entire STC team is aligned with evolving quality processes.
  • Take responsibility for training rollouts and documentation improvements related to global quality standards within defined timelines to ensure high standards of operational excellence.
  • Collaborate in the Failure Reporting Analysis Corrective Action System (FRACAS) to monitor, report, and resolve product failure incidents, reinforcing customer satisfaction and process integrity.
  • Lead or support root cause investigations related to quality assurance, testing, and failure analysis, managing the entire corrective action process from identification to closure.
  • Engage proactively in STC Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) activities to identify potential risks and implement mitigations utilizing appropriate quality tools.
  • Exercise responsibility or support in calibration processes to maintain accuracy and consistency of measurement tools and equipment.
  • Utilize diverse data sources including SAP, field information, warranty test stands, and analytical reports to perform advanced problem-solving and detailed failure investigations.
  • Identify emerging failure modes and process inefficiencies by providing evidence-based recommendations to senior quality leadership, contributing directly to the enhancement of vacuum pump product lifecycles.
  • Produce high-quality failure reports for all Level 2+ warranty and non-warranty strip reports, ensuring timely approval and communication to maintain transparent customer relations.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legal, safety, and organizational standards to foster a safe and ethical working environment.
  • Actively support internal and external audit activities, participating in process reviews and corrective actions to embed a culture of continuous improvement and quality excellence.

Essential Skills and Knowledge

  • Engineering or Quality discipline qualification at degree or HND level (or equivalent)
  • Strong understanding of ISO9001:2015 Quality Management Systems
  • Capability to interpret complex engineering documentation such as drawings and standard operating procedures
  • Experience implementing best practices within manufacturing operational environments
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies and quality management tools (qualitative and quantitative)
  • Knowledge of validation, verification, and calibration principles and techniques
  • Proficiency with mechanical measurement tools and equipment
  • Understanding of Quality Function Deployment and customer-driven quality standards
  • Adept in change management processes
  • Strong interpersonal skills including teamwork, communication, active listening, collaboration, and empathy
  • Experience with manufacturing operations, preferably mechanical or electrical processes
  • Lean manufacturing principles knowledge or experience
  • Minimum of 3 years experience within a Service Technology Centre or field service in vacuum or abatement industries
  • Detail-oriented and methodical approach to failure analysis supporting data-driven decision making
  • Self-motivated with ability to resolve complex quality issues and escalate appropriately
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with Power BI, Minitab, JMP is advantageous
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English
