Your role

As a Lead Electronics Engineer, your mission is to be responsible for driving the design, development, and delivery of innovative electronic solutions across product lines. This role ensures technical excellence, promotes best practices in design and manufacturing, and leads problem-solving efforts throughout the product lifecycle. Acting as a key technical authority, the Lead Engineer collaborates cross-functionally to align engineering outputs with business goals, customer requirements, and regulatory standards. They mentor team members, manage project risks, and champion continuous improvement to enhance product performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness, ensuring successful transition from concept to production.

The Main responsibilities for the role are to:

  • Maintain a strategic awareness of product roadmaps and priorities within the Vacuum Technique Division, as well as ongoing research in the New Technology Validation (NTV) department. Proactively recommend new research opportunities aligned with business and technology goals, either within the team or across the Division/s.
  • Lead the integration of advanced techniques and innovative product designs to enhance performance, efficiency, and competitiveness in the relevant technology domain.
  • Ensure a holistic approach to product development, balancing optimal design with manufacturability, reliability, and high-quality standards.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to development team members, guiding them toward successful project completion and stakeholder satisfaction. Champion best practices and ensure alignment with established development processes.
  • Take ownership of resolving technical challenges early in the development cycle using structured problem-solving methodologies, including root cause analysis and 8D reporting where applicable.
  • Collaborate with Product Management to explore and define ambitious product capabilities, while ensuring feasibility within project timelines. Oversee the development of designs that support reliable testing at both component and system levels.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external suppliers and subject matter experts to incorporate cutting-edge technologies and expand the team’s technical knowledge base.

Foster close collaboration with cross-disciplinary teams across engineering and operations to ensure that final products meet safety, quality, and reliability expectations upon release from the product Company

•    Bachelor or Masters degree (or equivalent) in Electrical and/or Electronics Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
•    Membership of relevant professional body e.g. IET and working towards Chartered status.
•    Must be a good communicator and have excellent fluency in spoken and written English. Ability to make decisions based on a knowledge of the business and an understanding of the impact

•    Proven experience in electronic circuit design (analogue and digital).
•    Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout tools (i.e. Altium, OrCAD).
•    Significant experience working in a global engineering and multi-disciplinary design environment.
•    Significant knowledge of the fundamentals of electronics design both analogue (low noise amplifier design, RF amplifier design) and high-speed digital as well as direct experience in applying the principles to one or more electronics products.
•    Significant knowledge of hardware interface for high speed serial communication (I2C, SPI, UART, Ethernet, fieldbus, RS485, RS232, CANopen)
•    Significant knowledge of hardware requirements for micro-controllers i.e ARM, DSP.
•    Strong understanding high voltage electronic circuits and instrumentation.
•    Experience working in a regulated, compliance-driven industry as well as a strong understanding of the electronics distributor markets.
•    Experience in a regulated or high-reliability industry (i.e. aerospace, medical, vacuum systems).
•    Experience in a project management role using both Waterfall and Agile (SCRUM) frameworks.
•    Good understanding of the product development processes. Experience working with tools such as SAP and Silicon Expert would be an advantage.
