Lead Manufacturing Engineer

Your role
As a Lead Manufacturing Engineer, your mission is to Provides Manufacturing Engineering leadership and expertise to the cross-functional New Product Introduction (NPI) teams. Responsible for ensuring that all aspects of the manufacturing deliverables are properly defined and met throughout the Product Commercialisation Process (PCP). Ensures engineering best practice with a strong focus on Design for Manufacture (DfM) and Assembly (DfA). Works with project stakeholders and Operations to gain a full understanding of product requirements and constraints, then provides appropriate manufacturing solutions. Influences product design and delivers safe and sustainable customer value within target cost. Assists with the creation of project plans and supports on schedule project delivery.
You will
Project Delivery: Represent Manufacturing Engineering interests and present project status updates to peers and stakeholders. manufacturing deliverables and co-ordinate activities to ensure on-time completion of all tasks. Create proposals for Capital Expenditure and oversee the procurement and installation of new equipment if required.
Strategy and Planning: Assist in the creation of project plans and provide task estimations and work breakdown information. Define appropriate manufacturing deliverables at all stages of the PCP process. Review product designs and define manufacturing and supply/logistics strategies with the relevant Operations teams. Perform Make/Buy analysis for products or sub-systems.
Product Design: Use engineering expertise to help define concepts and designs which meet stated product requirements and quality standards and comply with environmental and safety legislation. Work with Electronic and Mechanical CAD Design Teams to co-ordinate the creation of PCB/A and module designs to IPC standards. Knowledge of PCB/A design and manufacturing tools and techniques is essential. Further experience of sheet metal, die cast metal, aluminum extrusion, polymer injection molding and electrical wiring harnesses/loom design is also required.
Provide Manufacturing Solutions: Lead project activities to deliver robust manufacturing solutions. Oversee the creation of new and adapted assembly cells which meet relevant Health and Safety standards and where necessary deliver assembly jigs and fixtures to simplify product assembly and avoid defects. In consultation with production teams facilitate all NPI product builds and ensure clean handover to Operations by product launch. Accountability for the integrity of all new product-related data that is entered into the company’s SAP ERP system. This includes Material Masters, Bills of Material (BoM), Routings and Costs. Ensure that all designs are manufacturable and fall within associated process capabilities. Conduct process risk assessments and identify new equipment and techniques if required.
Continuous Improvement: Inspire a continuous improvement mindset within the team and ensure the use of Lean / Six Sigma tools and techniques such as Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfM and DfMA), and Test on all product developments.

• Engineering Degree or equivalent, with minimum of 10 years post qualification experience in a Manufacturing and Engineering environment.
• Strong knowledge of PCA design and manufacturing processes, with further experience of electrical and electronic product design and provision of appropriate manufacturing solutions.
• Ability to confidently lead a team of engineers and to co-ordinate manufacturing related new product introduction activities.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills with project team and all stakeholders.
