Your role

An exciting oppportunity has arisen for a Senior Tech Support Engineer to join the Edwards team based at Product Company Eastbourne.  

 

As a Senior Tech Support Engineer PLM, your mission is to provide ongoing technical support for Eastbourne operations and procurement, maintaining production designs for semiconductor, scientific, and industrial vacuum products for as long as required; support all product companies and divisions with Eastbourne-designed products and e-parts, including electronics and software; and contribute to new product development by ensuring designs are robust, compliant, and use components that remain available long-term. You will report to the Sustaining Manager.

You will

  • Take responsibility for product re-spins or redesigns arising from component obsolescence, supply constraints, or compliance requirements.
  • Provide guidance on and carry out testing of replacement components to address obsolescence or compliance issues in existing Eastbourne-designed semiconductor, scientific, and industrial vacuum E-Parts.
  • Lead the introduction of component changes within product designs by raising Deviations or ECs, and defining the required validation and implementation activities.
  • Propose, agree, and implement Copy Exact changes to ensure continuity of manufacturing and prevent customer non-conformities.
  • Evaluate BOM health checks for NPI projects, advising on component reuse and recommending alternatives where EOL or compliance risks are identified.
  • Conduct and report on evaluation and compliance testing in line with relevant EN standards (e.g. EMC and electrical safety) for both new and existing products.
  • Respond to product application queries and issues from Customer, Sales, and Service teams, providing escalation support to technical specialists where required.
  • Effectively manage workload while supporting other engineers, offering guidance on processes and best practice.

Ideally you will have a minimum of 5 years' experience working in a similar role and a degree level qualification in electrical and electronic engineering. HNC/HND qualifications will be considered alongside the required work experience.

  • Strong practical knowledge of a wide range of digital and analogue circuit types, from small signal to power electronics.
  • Ability to interpret circuit diagrams and understand the function of analogue and digital components; design experience is highly desirable.
  • Broad electronics expertise, including microcontrollers, embedded software, digital and analogue circuits, serial communications, power electronics, and switch-mode power supplies.
  • Competence in working with high-voltage single-phase and three-phase circuits.
  • Strong understanding of product compliance requirements; ideally including product safety, environmental legislation, and NRTL approvals.
  • Ability to produce clear technical reports to communicate findings to customers and internal technology teams; experience with 8D reporting is advantageous.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, from shop floor teams to senior management.

Job location

On-Site
This role requires you to work on-site at our office in Eastbourne, United Kingdom (GB). You will be part of a dynamic team and enjoy the benefits of face-to-face collaboration.

This role is based in Eastbourne UK and is predominantly on site 5 days per week with occasional scope for home working.

UK and international travel to other Edwards sites may be required ocassionally.
