Sourcing Engineer

As a Sourcing Engineer, your mission is to manage the procurement of key materials, components, and services from product development to serial production. This role will develop sourcing strategies, build supplier partnerships, mitigate risk, and ensure consistent supply while improving cost and quality. You will work closely with teams across R&D, engineering, quality, and operations to match supplier capabilities with technical and business needs. The ideal candidate has strong engineering skills, sourcing expertise, experience with compressors, and the ability to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. You will report to the Supply Chain Manager.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Take responsibility for the procurement of direct material from international suppliers to local.
  • Responsible for all purchasing-related activities, including, but not limited to, the sourcing process, price control, proposal analysis, negotiating improved value, awarding & implementing contracts.
  • Work with engineers and designers to source materials and services that align with product requirements.
  • Analyze and improve procurement processes to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance overall operations.
  • Establish robust communication strategies to report on program status, communicate critical issues and offer solutions, and implement corrective actions.
  • Ability to handle multiple high-visibility, high-priority initiatives effectively, independently, and under competing constraints
  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies aligned with our vision, emphasizing cost efficiency, manufacturability, quality, optimized lead times, and risk mitigation.
  • Analyze BOMs and collaborate with R&D/engineering teams to identify cost-saving opportunities
  • Lead RFQ processes, negotiating pricing, contracts, and payment terms with suppliers.
  • Benchmark global supplier markets and maintain a competitive supplier database. 
  • Leverage market intelligence, benchmarking, and cost modeling to evaluate RFQs.
  • Provide clear, data-driven updates to internal stakeholders through presentations and reports.
  • Ensure that procured materials and services meet company standards, budget requirements, and vendor qualifications.
  • Monitor supplier performance, including quality, delivery, and overall compliance.
  • Work with legal counsel to ensure procurement contracts accurately reflect negotiated terms.
  • Comply with OSHA regulations and company safety policies, applying Safe Start training to reinforce safe work practices and prevent injury.
  • Support Atlas Copco’s “Safety First” policy and implement sustainable processes to achieve targets for Quality, Environment, Safety, Health, and Energy/Resource Efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5–10 years of experience in technical sourcing, process engineering, supplier quality, or procurement engineering. Experience with launching new product portfolios is a plus.
  • Interpret prints, drawings, and quality requirements against product requirements and directly answer supplier questions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong technical ability, able to engage in engineering dialog with suppliers.
  • Demonstrated expertise and domain knowledge in one or more manufacturing processes, ex: machining, stamping, forging, casting, welding, coating, etc.
  • Strong analytical, project management, and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated expertise in contract negotiation and supplier relationship management
  • Proficient in data analysis and reporting tools, including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI
  • Experience with software tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.
  • Highly detail-oriented, well-organized, and analytical with strong problem-solving skills
  • Skilled in making data-driven decisions with a strong analytical mindset
  • Effective communicator with the ability to influence and collaborate across departments
  • Self-motivated and resourceful with a proactive approach to procurement.
  • Ability to manage projects of relatively high complexity and dollar value
  • Ability to understand technical drawings and specifications
