Data Scientist - Customer Focus
Our solutions are a key part of most industries - electronics, medical research, renewable energy, food production, infrastructure and many more. Working with us means working with the latest technologies and groundbreaking, sustainable innovations.
Join us on our journey for a better tomorrow.
The Data Scientist answers open-ended questions relating to equipment condition and performance, using data from a variety of sources.
They explore the data, and engage other domain experts, to produce highly accurate predictive models for customer use.
They also develop visuals and dashboards to convey model predictions.
The insights produced by the Data Scientist are used within the Semiconductor Service Operational Excellence framework, to provide value-added pre and aftersales services to customers.
This includes guidance for predictive or condition-based maintenance, the avoidance of unplanned downtime, or the proactive management of spares/inventory or service effort.
This role will involve significant amounts of time on customer sites, explaining to customers the output of predictive models, and helping to bring data driven decisions to the maintenance process.
Main Responsibilitie
- Represent Edwards Vacuum on customer sites, providing high quality updates to customers about the use of Predictive Models
- Be able to tune and customize Edwards suite of Predictive Models to work optimally on a customers specific process
- Collaborate, to build the subject matter expertise of others into your work
- Develop data analytic code, adopting and extending re-usable design patterns and modules across prototype and production models
- Specify or develop requirements for data linkage and tests for data quality, so the required pre-processing can be automated
- Participate in team design and code peer-reviews, to help establish and share best practice
- Keep up-to date with state-of-the-art data science methods and technology, maintaining internal and external peer networks, to facilitate professional development of yourself and the team
- The Data Scientist works closely with Data Engineers (on the gathering and preparation of data), and Data/Dev Ops specialists (in the production and release of models and algorithms).
- You will work with the team to produce and deploy predictive models that have been tuned to a customers specific process
- You will be responsible for providing regular updates to customers about the predictive analytics system, both during the operational phase of a contract, but also during the sales process for Outcome Based Contracts
- You will be inquisitive and creative, but also take a structured approach to executing data science projects – hypothesis driven, using rigorous scientific and data analysis methods to uncover potential bias in the data and the predictions.
- Communication is an important part of this role: effective Data Scientists are adept at using and presenting data to tell stories that relate findings to positive outcomes for users or the business as a whole. This includes selecting the appropriate medium for the audience, whether technical reporting, oral presentation or self-service dash boarding.
Skills / Knowledge / Experience
- 5+ years in a Data Analytics or Data Science role, ideally using data to study the performance or condition of physical/industrical assets.
- You may also have experience with the use of NLP to extract labels or other information from free-text records, or image processing to identify and classify features in still images or video
- Self reliant software developer, using mainstream data analytics languages: e.g. Python or R
- Excellent spoken and written English.
- Ideally you will have experience in the semiconductor industry
