Power and Light Sales Engineer

Your role
As a Power and Light Sales Engineer, your mission is to develop the Light and Power business within the Southern African region, with primary focus on lighting solutions and supporting development of the power portfolio. The responsibilities will include working closely with customers and our dealer network across the Mining, Construction, Rental, Industrial, Utilities, Events, and Oil and Gas segments, with a focus on understanding different applications, developing market share, creating early awareness of sustainable solutions, and positioning value-driven offerings that support customer productivity, safety and efficiency.
Your day-to-day
- Act as the subject matter expert for lighting tower applications, providing guidance on site illumination requirements, safety-driven lighting solutions, rental applications, contractor needs, and customer productivity objectives.
- Assess customer and site requirements to recommend, size, position, and optimise lighting solutions across applications including construction sites, mining operations, rental fleets, events, temporary infrastructure, utilities, and other safety-critical environments.
- Support dealers and customers throughout the Southern African region by identifying the most effective lighting solution first, and where required, recommending complementary power generation, hybrid energy, battery storage, or sustainable energy solutions to meet operational requirements.
- Contribute to the regional Light and Power business development strategy, driving lighting-focused market share growth, dealer capability development, application coverage, customer value creation, and the adoption of sustainable technologies.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing customers, promoting reliable, efficient, and sustainable lighting and power solutions that improve safety, productivity, energy efficiency, uptime, and total cost of ownership.
- Partner with dealers, customers, and internal stakeholders to translate product capabilities into practical customer benefits and business value.
- Prepare, present, and negotiate commercial proposals and contracts with prospective and existing customers.
- Collaborate with a dedicated team to deliver agreed divisional objectives, business plans, and performance targets.
- Stay informed on developments in diesel, hybrid, electric power generation, battery energy storage systems, and other sustainable technologies to support customer requirements and future market opportunities.
- Travel regularly throughout local and regional territories to provide customer support, business development, and application expertise.
Your skills and experience
- Proven experience in lighting application engineering, sales support, product management, business development, or a related technical role, with strong expertise in site illumination solutions and lighting tower applications.
- Demonstrated ability to assess customer requirements and recommend fit-for-purpose lighting solutions for industries such as construction, mining, rental, events, infrastructure, utilities, and industrial operations.
- Working knowledge of power generation solutions, including diesel generators, prime and standby power applications, hybrid energy systems, battery energy storage solutions, and emerging sustainable technologies.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to identify customer needs, develop value-based solutions, and communicate the operational and financial benefits of proposed products and services.
- Experience working with dealers, distributors, contractors, rental companies, or industrial customers in a technical and commercial environment.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, relationship-building, negotiation, and customer management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and CRM platforms, including C4C and SAP.
- A dynamic, self-motivated, and results-driven approach, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Mechanical Engineering Degree, Electrical Engineering Degree, or equivalent technical qualification is advantageous.
- Valid driver's license and passport, with the ability and willingness to travel extensively within Southern Africa.
