The Team Leader Mexico Sourcing has the mission to develop and support the local Mexico sourcing team in the development of a qualitive and cost competitive Mexican supplier base to support U.S. based operations. The individual will work closely with divisional management and cross-functional teams including engineering, quality, and procurement.

 

Principal Responsibilities

  • Team Management:
    • Guide, develop and manage a small team of procurement professionals
    • Manage the team capacity and performance monitoring of the requested deliverables
    • Training and development of the sourcing professionals to ensure they have the necessary skills
  • Cross-functional Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with foreign stakeholders, including divisional management, procurement, engineering, and quality teams to ensure alignment on development needs and supplier performance
    • Communicate supplier performance metrics and improvement initiatives to foreign based teams
  • Supplier Identification & Evaluation:
    • Identify and evaluate potential suppliers in Mexico to support U.S. company needs
    • Conduct supplier audits and assessments to evaluate capabilities, quality standards, and performance
  • Supplier Development:
    • Work closely with suppliers to improve processes, product quality, and delivery performance
    • Provide technical support and guidance to suppliers to meet U.S. company standards and expectations
    • Develop and implement supplier improvement plans, focusing on quality, cost reduction, and lead-time improvements
  • Risk Management:
    • Identify and mitigate supply chain risks related to supplier performance, capacity, and compliance
    • Develop contingency plans to address potential disruptions in the supply chain
  • Cost Management:
    • Support cost reduction initiatives by identifying and developing suppliers capable of providing high-quality materials and services at competitive costs
  • Supplier Relationship Management:
    • Establish long-term relationships with key suppliers to drive innovation, continuous improvement, and competitive advantage
    • Negotiate contracts and agreements with suppliers, ensuring alignment with U.S. business need

 

Qualification and Experience Requirements

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field preferred. Equivalent work experience in a technical/manufacturing environment may be acceptable
  • Experience:
    • 7-10 years of experience in supplier development, quality engineering, or procurement, preferably within a manufacturing or engineered-to-order environment
    • Perferably some experience within Atlas Copco and familiar with divisional reporting and alignment
    • Experience working with international suppliers and supporting U.S.-based operations
  • Skills:
    • Proven coaching and leadership experience
    • Structured and analytical attitude with an eye for detail including keeping track of the bigger picture and long-term goals
    • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to work cross-culturally
    • Analytical mindset
    • Problem-solving mindset with experience in root cause analysis and corrective actions
    • Strong knowledge of supplier development methodologies and quality improvement tools
    • Fluency in both English and Spanish, with the ability to communicate technical and business requirements clearly
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed (up to 50%)
    • Comply with all safety rules, regulations, and Mexico’s Occupational Health and Safety Standards requirement
