Purpose:

To lead, manage, and develop a team responsible for global trade compliance activities for Atlas Copco entities. Focus areas include customs classification, conflict minerals reporting, dangerous goods management, and vendor sourcing support. The role demands strong leadership, technical knowledge, and the ability to drive digitalization and automation to improve efficiency and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and guide the Trade Compliance team in customs classification and export control activities.
  • Analyze technical specifications (working principle, material, function) to classify parts/products under correct HS codes according to European, Indian, USA, Chinese, and WTO guidelines.
  • Apply General Rules for Interpretation (GRI/GIR) accurately for classification decisions.
  • Screen parts and products for Dual-Use regulations (Export Control Compliance).
  • Communicate daily with global stakeholders across Belgium, USA, India, and other Atlas Copco locations.
  • Drive resource planning to ensure efficient team utilization and control cost per hour.
  • Implement automation and digitalization initiatives (e.g., RPA, Data Analytics) to enhance operational effectiveness.
  • Develop competency models and maturity timelines for the Trade Compliance team.
  • Deliver internal training programs (e-learning and classroom sessions) to upskill the team.
  • Track and report compliance activities, ensuring timely response to customs authorities’ queries and audits.
  • Collaborate across cross-functional teams and act as the main customer point of contact.
  • Promote a customer-focused culture and contribute to world-class service levels.
  • Regularly update standard operating procedures to reflect changes in global trade compliance regulations.

Required Experience & Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering (B.E. mandatory). OR MBA with Similar Industry experience
  • Minimum 8 to Maximum 15 years of relevant experience in trade compliance, customs classification, or export control.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, BOMs (Bill of Materials), and product specifications.
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools, especially MS Excel and MS Outlook; knowledge of ERP systems like BPCS or SAP is a plus.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and develop teams.
  • Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across various teams and business levels.
  • Result-driven with strong organizational and time-management skills.

Additional Skills (Good to Have):

  • Experience with automation tools such as RPA and Data Analytics.
  • Exposure to global trade compliance audits and reporting.
  • Ability to manage large datasets and digital compliance processes.
