Your role

As an Area Sales Engineer based in Penang, Malaysia, you will play a vital role within our Industrial Technique business area. Your primary focus is to drive sales growth by applying your technical knowledge and sales acumen to address customer challenges. Collaborating closely with the Sales Manager, engineering teams, and product specialists, you will help deliver tailored solutions that meet customer requirements and strengthen relationships across the region.

Short Description

The Area Sales Engineer role is essential for expanding our customer base and ensuring satisfaction through expert advice and product demonstrations. You will be the technical liaison between our customers and internal teams, ensuring seamless communication and successful implementation of our Industrial Technique offerings. Your day-to-day

Strategic Sales Execution

  • Develop and execute a territory sales plan focused on high-growth General Industry segments (e.g., Data centers, EMS, …) and Automotive Quality Control
  • Promote Desoutter’s full portfolio: tools, automation, vision, process control, and digital solutions.

Customer & Market Development

  • Identify, develop, and win new customers across Malaysia, with strong focus on Penang industrial ecosystem.
  • Build relationships with production, engineering, and management stakeholders.

Sales Activities & Opportunity Conversion

  • Conduct demos, workshops, line audits, and solution presentations to convert opportunities into orders.
  • Translate customer needs into value-based solutions.

Project & Account Management

  • Support customer projects, working with internal teams to deliver solutions.
  • Drive long-term account development.

Channel & Collaboration

  • Develop and manage distributors when applicable.
  • Work closely with service, marketing, and project teams to ensure customer satisfaction.

Reporting & Performance

  • Provide accurate sales forecasting and reporting.
  • Manage receivables and support financial performance.

Your skills and experience

Experience

• Minimum 2–5 years of sales experience in industrial or machinery sectors, preferably with exposure to Chinese industrial partnerships.

• Experience in premium industrial solution selling is preferred

Knowledge

• Mechanical or electrical knowledge

• Proficiency in MS Office tools

Skills

• Presentation and negotiation skills

• Customer engagement and solution selling mindset

Language

• English and Malay required (spoken & written)

• Mandarin is an advantage

  1. This position requires on-site presence at our office located in Penang, Malaysia, fostering clear and direct collaboration with your team and customers.
  2. A hybrid working model may be considered, allowing some flexibility for remote work balanced with in-person engagement.
