Linux L3 Engineer (Ubuntu, Intune, Chef)

Your role
We are looking for a skilled and proactive Linux Engineer to oversee the management and engineering of Ubuntu endpoints within our dynamic corporate IT environment. This role demands an individual with advanced expertise in automation through bash scripting and configuration management using Chef. Familiarity with Linux endpoint management in Microsoft Intune is advantageous. The successful candidate will collaborate effectively across diverse teams including software developers, global IT solution teams, product owners, security specialists, and enterprise architects to deliver secure, scalable, and efficient Linux solutions that meet developer needs and align with organizational compliance standards.
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Engineering, deploying, and maintaining standardized Ubuntu workstation configurations encompassing system images, security baselines, hardening practices, and policies designed for enterprise-level deployment.
- Developing and maintaining automated provisioning workflows and configurations through Chef allowing for consistent, repeatable, and scalable environment setups, complemented by robust bash scripting for task automation.
- Managing package lifecycle including secure handling of APT repositories, routine operating system updates, and ensuring end-of-life compliance.
- Optionally, administering Linux devices with Microsoft Intune focusing on device enrollment, compliance, and configuration profiles management.
In addition to endpoints management, you will champion security and compliance by:
- Implementing and maintaining security standards such as CIS benchmark hardening, full disk encryption with LUKS, secure boot protocols, firewall configurations (ufw/iptables), and comprehensive audit logging to protect critical systems.
- Facilitating integration of Linux endpoints with Microsoft Active Directory (on-premises), Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), and Conditional Access policies to harmonize identity and access management across platforms.
- Supporting vulnerability management initiatives, including identification, prioritization, and remediation of security risks in Linux environments.
This role is pivotal in ensuring the seamless delivery of secure Linux environments that empower our development teams and contribute to the overall resilience and innovation of our IT infrastructure.
To succeed, you will need
Essential qualifications and skills:
- Proven experience managing Ubuntu systems in complex enterprise environments.
- Strong command of bash scripting and automation principles.
- Comprehensive knowledge of endpoint security practices including patch management, encryption techniques, firewall configuration, and system hardening.
- Experience leveraging Chef for configuration management and deployment automation.
- Excellent proficiency in English with strong communication skills to facilitate collaboration across global and cross-functional teams.
- Bonus: Experience with Microsoft Intune for Linux device management.
