Job Description:

As a Senior Data Engineer within the CT‑IS Purchasing & Sustainability team, you play a key role in translating business needs into scalable, reliable, and data-driven solutions. You work closely with a project lead, other data engineers, product owner and the business stakeholders to understand their requirements, challenges, and opportunities, and convert these into robust data pipelines, models, and datasets that enable high-quality reporting and insights.

 

Examples of technologies you will be working with: Azure Data Lake Storage, Delta Lake, Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Azure SQL, Azure Dev Ops.

 

Beyond technical delivery, you contribute to end-to-end solution development, including scoping, design, implementation, validation, and deployment. You ensure that data solutions are not only technically sound but also aligned with business objectives and user needs.

 

You actively support continuous improvement by optimizing data processes, resolving production issues, and ensuring data quality and reliability.

 

You operate within the established data platform and architectural standards, ensuring that all solutions comply with platform guidelines, governance, and best practices for scalability, security, and maintainability.

Skills and Experience:

Technical Expertise

 

  • The ideal candidate has good experience with data engineering on cloud-based data platforms using Databricks (Spark), preferably based on MS Azure technology: Azure Storage, Azure SQL database, Azure data factory, Azure Databricks
  • Good coding skills (Python, SQL, or Scala)
  • Solid understanding of data modelling, data warehousing, and relational database concepts
  • Experience designing and implementing scalable data pipelines and data models
  • Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and data preparation for analytics and AI-driven solutions (e.g. feature engineering, large-scale datasets, data quality for AI)
  • Experience with following concepts or technologies is considered a plus:
    • Data Lake Storage, SQL, Hive, Presto, …

Engineering Practices

 

  • Proven experience in building and maintaining robust, production-grade data pipelines
  • Familiarity with modern development practices, including version control and CI/CD
  • Experience working with standardized deployment frameworks (e.g. Asset Bundles or similar)
  • Ability to document data pipelines, models, and technical solutions clearly

 

Delivery & Solution Development

 

  • Ability to independently deliver end-to-end data solutions (design, build, test, deploy, support)
  • Experience working with complex, multi-source datasets to meet business requirements
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple priorities/projects
  • Experience working in Agile environments (Scrum); Jira exposure is a plus

 

Business & Collaboration

 

  • Ability to translate business requirements into data solutions and provide guidance to stakeholders
  • Good understanding of BI/reporting principles and data visualization concepts
  • Ability to lead small-scale data engineering initiatives
