Purpose / Mission
As Sr. Engineer - Automation & Digitalization, your mission is to integrate advanced automation technologies and digital solutions into manufacturing processes to drive efficiency, cost reduction, and productivity. Key Responsibilities
Customer Focus
· Timely execution of automation and digitalization projects across all business areas.
· Develop and maintain dashboards and KPIs to control, monitor, and improve quality, delivery, and cost.
· Ensure GECIA’s contribution to improving manufacturing processes.
· Allocate and manage dedicated resources for customer needs.
· Represent GECIA in internal and external meetings, showcasing contributions to manufacturing processes.
· Secure customer approvals when required.
People Focus
· Support development of subject matter experts to position GECIA as a competence center.
· Assist in building teams based on skills and competence matrices.
· Foster a “CAN DO; WILL DO” mindset and team spirit focused on customer success.
· Help team members identify their purpose.
Technology Focus
Promote innovation culture, nurturing ideas to improve manufacturing processes using smart technologies.
Process Focus
· Create, Develop & maintain the Knowledge management Portals, Databases, etc. to document the knowledge about Product, Process, People & Tool.
· Continuous Process improvement using Automation, Standardization, Innovation, Digitalization, Efficiency Improvement Projects etc.
Operational Excellence
· Implement resource planning mechanisms for optimal utilization.
· Maintain targeted cost per hour in line with group management expectations.
· Achieve "first time right" as a key KPI.
· Apply activity-based costing to optimize resource allocation between GECIA and partner teams.
· Ensure transparency in resource planning, identifying bottlenecks early.
· Define and execute automation projects for repetitive processes to improve quality.

Key Qualifications & Technical Skills
Digitalization & Industry 4.0 Solutions:
o Strong experience in machine connectivity, data pipelines, IoT edge devices, and IIoT solution design.
o Hands-on in integrating automation systems with digital platforms for improved decision-making.
o Experience with Ignition development (Vision & Perspective), gateway management, and scaled-out architectures.
Industrial Automation & Control Systems:
o Expertise in PLC programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley) and sensor technologies.
o Experience in CNC communication (Fanuc, Siemens Sinumerik, DMG Mori Seiki).
o Skilled in robot/camera communication and vision system integration.
o Proficient in communication hardware such as Managed switch, PN-PN/PN-DP couplers, Wi-Fi modules, CP cards, Hilscher, IBH modules.
Software Development & Integration:
o Skilled in Python, Java, React, Node.js, Django, and Flask.
o Knowledge of API integration, Azure API Management, RESTful services, and cloud IoT platforms.
o Familiarity with scripting languages such as JavaScript and Python.
Industrial Communication Protocols:
o Proficient with MQTT, WebSockets, OPC-UA, OPC Router, Modbus, Profinet, TCP/IP, DeviceNet, IO-Link.
o Cloud communication expertise using MQTT, HTTP, and JSON.
Database & Data Analytics:
o Proficient in SQL, MongoDB, and MS SQL.
o Experienced in data analytics and visualization for manufacturing insights.
Additional Skills:
o Understanding of MES, WMS, and supply chain management systems as part of overall automation strategy.
o Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking abilities.
o Excellent communication skills to engage with cross-functional teams and clients.
o Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver on time.
Education and Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in Electronics & Communication (ECE), Electrical & Instrumentation (EIE), Instrumentation, or a related engineering/technology field.
· 8–10 years of experience in industrial automation and digitalization across manufacturing domains.
· Proven track record of delivering Industry 4.0 projects from concept to deployment.
· Hands-on experience with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Jetson, and emerging IoT technologies.
· Familiarity with CAAS (Cloud as a Service) and modern automation platforms.
· Strong understanding of ISA-95 standards and OT/IT convergence best practices.
Summary:
The Sr. Engineer - Automation & Digitalization is responsible for driving the adoption of advanced automation technologies and digital solutions in manufacturing processes. The key to success in this role to implement IIoT technologies and cloud platforms to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and boost productivity. The candidate will oversee automation and digitalization projects,
maintain dashboards and KPIs to monitor quality, delivery, and costs, and contribute to process improvements. To excel, the candidate must have a strong technical background in manufacturing systems, leadership skills to mentor and develop the team, and the ability to foster innovation and customer success. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential to handle multiple tasks and meet project deadlines.

Job location
This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, allowing you to split your time between working remotely and being on-site at our Atlas Copco in Pune, India.
