Senior Network Specialist-APAC

Your role

The Network Operations Specialist – Developmental role is intended to provide an internal development opportunity for an IT Operations/L1 support professional with an interest in networking and demonstrate potential to grow into a network operations role.

The position will initially focus on developing practical networking knowledge, supporting day-to-day network operations, assisting with incident troubleshooting, and working under the guidance of senior network/IT infrastructure specialists.

Key Responsibilities

1. Network Operations Support

Provide first-level support for network-related incidents and service requests.

Assist in troubleshooting LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi and connectivity issues.

Perform basic checks on switches, access points, network connections and end-user connectivity.

Monitor network alerts and escalate issues based on defined procedures.

Support routine network operational activities under the guidance of senior team members.

2. Network Troubleshooting

Apply TCP/IP, VLAN, DHCP, DNS and routing concepts to troubleshoot connectivity issues.

Use standard troubleshooting tools such as ping, tracert/traceroute, nslookup and basic switch/network diagnostic commands.

Follow a structured troubleshooting methodology rather than relying solely on escalation.

Identify the likely point of failure and provide relevant technical information when escalating incidents.

Participate in problem investigation and root-cause analysis for recurring issues.

3. Incident and Problem Management

Own the assigned incidents and take them to resolution or appropriate escalation.

Maintain accurate technical documentation.

Provide clear updates to users and IT teams.

Identify recurring issues and highlight opportunities for permanent fixes.

Participate in post-incident reviews and capture lessons learned.

4. Network Projects and Changes

Assist senior network specialists with network infrastructure projects and changes.

Support activities such as switch replacement, access-point deployment, network migrations.

Follow approved implementation procedures and change-management processes.

Perform basic validation and testing after network changes.

Maintain accurate documentation of network changes.

5. Vendor and Service Provider Coordination

Work with network vendors and service providers for assigned incidents and operational activities.

Collect relevant technical information before escalating issues.

Track vendor actions and follow up on open incidents.

Escalate delays or unresolved issues to the appropriate senior team member.

6. Documentation and Knowledge Development

Maintain network support documentation, troubleshooting guides and knowledge articles.

Build understanding of the organization's network architecture and standards.

Participate in knowledge-transfer sessions with senior network specialists.

Develop technical capability through structured training, hands-on assignments and certification.

To succeed, you will need

Essential

• Experience in IT infrastructure support.
• Good understanding of networking concepts.
• Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication skills.
• Willingness and demonstrated ability to develop networking expertise.

Preferred

• Hands-on exposure to switches, wireless access points or network troubleshooting.
• Exposure to ITIL/ServiceNow or similar IT service-management processes.

Experience working with infrastructure or network vendors.
