Main Responsibilities

As a Strategic Purchasing Engineer within Atlas Copco's Industrial Technique division, you will play a critical role in shaping and executing purchasing strategies that align with our company mission. Your primary focus will be to develop and implement effective sourcing plans, ensuring operational excellence and maintaining cost leadership in a competitive market.

  • Develop comprehensive purchasing strategies that effectively support business objectives and translate these strategies into actionable plans for your team and suppliers.
  • Conduct detailed cost value analysis on parts, utilizing data on raw materials and production processes to establish sensible and achievable price targets.
  • Manage end-to-end supplier relationships, including supplier portfolio management, capability assessments, classifications, and optimization efforts, collaborating closely with Supplier Quality Engineering.
  • Support and drive supplier quality management initiatives, fostering continuous improvement in suppliers' process quality to meet and exceed product quality standards.
  • Lead efforts to reduce supply chain costs not only on production parts but also taking into account materials and other contributing factors impacting total cost.
  • Perform thorough audits of production parts suppliers, including evaluations for new suppliers and periodic reassessments of existing ones to ensure compliance and performance.
  • Implement regular supplier performance evaluations for assigned commodities or products, ensuring alignment with company standards and expectations.
  • Oversee contract framework agreements, pricing conditions, price lists, logistics agreements, and related documentation, ensuring contracts are compliant and favorable for the organization.
  • Collaborate with Engineering teams in design-to-cost activities and design for manufacturing improvements, aiming to build a sustainable supplier base and optimize costs effectively.
  • Engage in technical communications with suppliers to support product design optimization, challenge original designs constructively, and standardize parts and raw materials where possible.
  • Contribute to global group purchasing activities by facilitating local supplier participation in global projects, aligning with the company’s global sourcing strategy.
  • Serve as a key contributor in new product development by managing overall purchasing costs, leading cost reduction initiatives throughout project phases, and ensuring targets for cost and development timelines are met.
  • Drive innovation in supply chain technology and processes by exploring and implementing creative solutions that enhance product competitiveness and operational efficiency.
  • Execute additional tasks as assigned by the Purchasing Manager, supporting broader department goals and strategic initiatives.

This role demands strategic thinking, excellent communication abilities, and a proactive approach to managing supplier relationships and cost management in a fast-paced international environment.

To succeed, you will need

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ proven experience in sourcing and strategic purchasing, ideally within production environments. Supplier Quality Engineering (SQE) experience is considered an advantage.
  • Solid understanding of production processes relevant to assigned commodities, including but not limited to electrical, pneumatic, rubber, fasteners, and catalogue components.
  • Strong experience in managing supplier relationships with a focus on quality, cost, and delivery performance.
  • Comfortable working within an international matrix organization; able to adapt communication and working styles across different cultures.
  • Demonstrated negotiating skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels.
  • Proficient with ERP systems, particularly in Materials Management (MM) modules, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Fluency in both English and Mandarin Chinese, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
