Technical lead/manager - Dry pump 1

Your Role

• Be the technical authority for standard Dry pump and related non-standard derivatives (variants) for the Industrial Vacuum Division (VIN) in product company Tianjin.
• You can be assigned to functionally lead and direct a cross-functional project team throughout the whole product development process to achieve your project targets/deliverables within an agreed timeline. This project team can be international and will be matrixed, typically consisting of development engineers, CAD designers, manufacturing engineers, sourcing engineers, marketing product manager, service engineers.
• Will plan and manage/coordinate all the project activities (technical & development activities, project status reporting to monthly project review meeting (PCM), lead weekly cross functional project team meeting (PTM), project budget spending follows up, follow up project related activities of other departments involved, etc)
• Will manage the product development project(s) according to the Industrial Vacuum Product Commercialization Process ‘CtP’
• Develops new ideas and solutions for a given product to enable the overall product to meet specification and costs and reliability.
• Responsible for the technical integrity, safety and reliability of a given product or solution. This also includes the responsibility for determining the risk profile of the new designs and technologies and the subsequent management of the risk mitigation/reduction through design and testing programs.
• Responsible for providing first and potentially second level Technical Support for a given range of products or features within those products within the scope of the technical authority (as described above), both internally to Operations/Service and externally to customers. This requires establishing and managing technical support once the product is launched liaising with other technical support groups as required.
• Support and improve existing products by stimulating cross-functional co-operation and team building, managing the engineering change mechanism and selecting product improvement projects to reduce warranty costs, meet business objectives and improve customer satisfaction.
• Produce documentation on novel systems, solutions and projects according to internal and external standards, producing documentation (operating manuals, service manuals, technical data …) and test reports as necessary and publishing them on internal systems so that they can be retrieved by other interested parties when required and published outside of Industrial Vacuum Division if required
• Undertakes or supports complex analysis of test data from own work or from other team members or from other research to derive conclusions, recommendations and/or new product design iterations.
• Provides supervision to development engineers and guidance to less experienced staff as well as staff appraisals and development. This also entails developing new ideas and solutions to improve practices and procedures within the team
• Ensures that all areas under their direct control are conducted and work in a safe and effective manner in compliance with the Company's Health and Safety policy and ensure that the requirements under Section 2 of the Health and Safety at Work Act are met.

• Actively support all other PC departments in reaching the joint company targets or whenever the business requires your assistance to design iterations.
• ATEX Champion of standard products of PC TJ, to ensure ATEX standard complied for design and manufucturing process of ATEX pump produced in PC TJ

You will need 

1. Education level

• Bachelor/master Degree level in a relevant engineering science discipline, with preference to Mechanical(Electro-) Engineering

2. Relevant Previous experience

• Experience in product development and technical support in a manufacturing industry, ideally relating to rotating machinery or engine or pump manufacture. Exposure to thermal dynamics and heat transfer, bearing design, gearboxes and close clearance machines is an advantage; Knowledge of manufacturing processes and technologies.                     
• Practical experience of experimental techniques, FMEA’s, reliability testing, the process of product design and the introduction of new products to production.

3.  Knowledge areas/Skills

• Good experience and usage level of the key MS office packages, e.g MS Excel, Words, Powerpoint
• Self-management of tasks and their delivery; Grasp of technical matters with evidence of speed, accuracy, innovation and quality of work; Accuracy in data collection and results gather
• Good communications capability; The ability to carry out tasks correctly, to agreed timescales and quality standards with supervision; The capability to correctly diagnose and successfully resolve technical problems; Open flexible mindset. Able to adjust to changing task requirement.

4.  Other requirements

• Fluency in English and Chinese is required

5.  Experience in New Product Introductions and technology development programs

• Experience and knowledge on key technologies essential in the design of mechanical machinery, with preference to rotating type machinery
• Experience in a number of the following areas; heat transfer and thermodynamics, rotating element bearings, lubrication systems, electric motors, gearboxes, small clearance mechanisms, vacuum technology
• Fully able to communicate internally and externally with senior managers, peers and suppliers/sub-contractors
• An excellent level of project management
• High energy level & target/solution driven approach
• Social team player with visual leadership and man management who motivates and inspires other team members
• Good experience and usage level of the key MS office packages, e.g MS Excel, Words, Powerpoint
• FMEA and other risk management tools and techniques
• Analytical and modelling capabilities
• Knowledge in CAE modelling techniques, such a clearance or FEA
• Experience with legislative and regulatory standards
• Motivated and self starting, Assertive, takes responsibility and able to make (difficult) choices with confidence
