Joining Development Engineer within the Fastening Technology Group, responsible for leading the development projects through Atlas Copco’s lean-agile process to deliver smart, sustainable and industry leading automotive fastener solutions
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Responsibilities
-
Lead the development of fastening and coating solutions, delivering projects from concept through to launch in line with Atlas Copco’s lean-agile development process.

Contribute to realising the product portfolio vision, by advancing fastener and coating technologies that meet emerging industry needs and customer challenges.

Collaborate with global teams, customer centres, and application labs to identify opportunities, test new concepts, and co-develop customer-centric solutions.

Ensure successful industrialisation through structured quality processes (APQP, PPAP), ensuring compliance with IATF standards and customer expectations.

Investigate and implement new materials, surface treatments, and process technologies to enhance product performance, quality, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness.

Work closely with suppliers and internal teams to develop robust, scalable solutions for manufacturing, testing and application of fasteners and coatings.
Leadership Responsibilities

Plan and manage fastener and coating projects, setting clear objectives, timelines, and resource plans.

Report regularly on project progress, highlighting risks, mitigation actions, and support needs.

Coordinate technical work packages, engaging engineers, technicians, and cross-functional stakeholders.

Support customer projects, evaluating different fastening and coating solutions to meet specific performance and application needs.

Drive a collaborative, solution-oriented approach across R&D, operations, quality and commercial teams.
Other Duties

Support cross-functional product investigations, resolving performance issues through structured root cause analysis.

Participate in events and technical forums, representing Atlas Copco’s fastener and coating technologies.

Pursue continuous professional development, keeping up to date with trends in fastening, materials, coatings and testing.

Promote a safe and sustainable working culture, following all health, safety, and environmental procedures.

Be flexible to travel or support other departments, as needed to meet project or business requirements.
Essential
- Industry experience within a product development environemnt or formal academic qualification(s) in product design, mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering or related scientific / engineering discpiline.
- Experience or knowledge of stage gate product development processes
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacture/ Design for X
- Practical awareness of product compliance and regulatory standards (ISO9001:2015) or similar
- Experience of working with solid models
- Solid modelling and CAD drafting proficiency
- Ability to demonstrate an involvement with physical testing of components / assemblies with knowledge of instrumentation suitable for this purpose
Desirable
- Strong academic background (Undergraduate Degree or equivelent)
- Knowledge of material science i.e. Alloys, Steels and Composites
- Experience of utilising FE analysis tools for product development
- Experience of using Automated or Manual machining equipment
- Awareness of Industry 4.0 enabling technologies.
- Familiarity with agile frameworks and mindset and / or lean product development techniques
- Practical awareness of product compliance and regulatory standards (IATF 16949:2016) or similar industry standards
- Commitment to the profession through demonstrable recent personal and professional development and registration
- Experience or working in an industry supplying high precision components for use in a high-throughput production environment (i.e., automotive, medical, aerospace)meeding targets and tight deadlines
