Calculation Engineer

Your role
The Beyond Air Task Force is responsible for developing and maintaining new compression technologies for gas applications. Developments can start from a blank paper to upgrading current products as well as searching for innovations together with our internal customers, R&D-cells and external parties. The team oversees the entire process from product strategy, design and testing up to operations and customer delivery. To further strengthen our analytical and simulation capabilities, we are now looking for a Calculation Engineer.
In this exciting role, you:
- Perform comprehensive engineering calculations to support design decisions, including thermodynamic, fluid dynamic, mechanical, bearings, and structural analyses.
- Develop and maintain analytical and numerical models to simulate compressor and component behavior for various gases and operating conditions.
- Conduct detailed calculations for mechanical integrity, including stress, strain, and fatigue analyses of critical components.
- Execute thermodynamic assessments to evaluate system efficiency and performance.
- Perform advanced bearings calculations to ensure reliability and longevity of rotating equipment.
- Carry out structural calculations to validate the robustness and safety of assemblies and subcomponents.
- Analyze and process customer requests with respect to special gas applications, providing expert guidance on calculation methodologies.
- Apply critical thinking and engineering knowledge to define relevant boundary cases and operating scenarios.
- Use data-driven approaches to calibrate and validate models, ensuring alignment between theoretical predictions and real-world performance.
In this position you will report to the Beyond-Air Task Force Leader.

- The successful candidate has a master in Electromechanical/Energy/Mechatronics engineering or equivalent in experience.
- Extensive knowledge of thermodynamics and structural analysis
- Programming capabilities (Matlab)
- You have a very good knowledge of English. An additional language is considered as a plus.
- Genuine interest in technology and innovation.
- You enjoy a dynamic and multi-disciplinary working environment

Job location
This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, allowing you to split your time between working remotely and being on-site at our Atlas copco airpower site in Wilrijk, Antwerp, Belgium (BE).
