Your role

Are you a driven manufacturing engineer with a passion for process optimization, automation systems, and advanced production technologies? Do you want to play a key role in introducing cutting-edge production equipment and coating processes that power sustainable industrial innovations?

What does a manufacturing project engineer do at the Atlas Copco Group in Wilrijk? As a manufacturing project engineer within our engineering competence center, you will independently plan, execute, and deliver capital investment projects and manufacturing process improvements in accordance with Atlas Copco standards (such as NPPI and Safety First). You will take full responsibility for specifying, budgeting, and qualifying new production equipment and coating technologies (including FDA-focused Z-coat applications), before seamlessly handing them over to the shop floor flow teams.

Your daily flow involves conducting technical and commercial evaluations for capital goods (STPO creation, supplier negotiation, internal/external buy-offs, uptime registration), while optimizing for ergonomics, safety, maintenance, and unit cost reduction. As project leader, you assemble cross-functional teams, manage project budgets and timelines, present feasibility studies to management, drive patent applications, and report progress at PCM milestones. Additionally, you provide early-stage manufacturability input to product development teams, troubleshoot production launch phases, and audit equipment availability during warranty periods. If interested, you also have the opportunity to work overarching on digital manufacturing and software systems integration (such as SOFE, Ignition, CAQ, GEMS, Delmia). You will work via our hybrid model at our facility in Wilrijk.

To succeed, you will need

Who knows, on-the-job-training may be available for you for this position.

  • Master's degree in Electromechanical Engineering (Civil or Industrial Engineer), preferably backed by several years of hands-on experience

  • Broad technical foundation with specialized knowledge in manufacturing processes; practical experience with coating processes (e.g., Z-coat) is a strong advantage

  • Strong interest or experience in digital manufacturing systems and software integration (e.g., Ignition, CAQ, Delmia, GEMS, SOFE)

  • Thorough understanding of industrial engineering principles, ergonomics, safety regulations, and capital expenditure procedures (NPPI methodology)

  • Creative, analytical, and entrepreneurial mindset with a cost-, environment-, and safety-conscious approach

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills with high autonomy, clear communication, and a strong result-driven orientation

  • Fluent communication skills in Dutch and English (written and spoken); willingness to undertake short-term external assignments or trips when required
