What does a design & product engineer heat exchangers do at the Atlas Copco Group in Wilrijk? As a design & product engineer heat exchangers you will join our Airtec product development team to strengthen our cooler development capability with a clear focus on shorter design cycles, faster prototyping, and agile decision-making. Working closely with designers, production, test teams, suppliers, and internal customers, you size, evaluate, and optimize heat exchangers using in-house calculation and sizing tools.
Your daily flow as a design & product engineer heat exchangers involves translating complex technical requirements into practical cooler concepts while balancing thermal performance, pressure drop, dimensions, cost, and manufacturability. You drive fast design loops to move quickly toward a minimum viable product, coordinate prototypes, and combine pure engineering work with hands-on checks, dimension measurements, and test follow-ups in the workshop. Applying a quick response manufacturing mindset, you communicate directly, raise risks or red flags early, and push decisions forward while documenting technical data, drawings, specifications, bills of material, and lessons learned. You will report to the team leader within product development and work via a hybrid model at our facility in Wilrijk.

Master degree in mechanical and thermodynamical engineering or equivalent technical experience

Strong interest in heat transfer, pressure drop, flow calculations, and mechanical design

Technical background or clear affinity with thermal engineering, calculation tools, simulation software, or energy systems

Ability to interpret calculation results and translate technical assumptions into practical engineering decisions and workshop reality

Professional communication skills in English to align directly with a diverse group of international stakeholders

Entrepreneurial, agile, and curious team player who thrives on speed, values short feedback loops, challenges the status quo, and takes full ownership to keep projects moving

Experience with product development, prototypes, heat exchangers, compressors, or thermal systems considered a plus

Job location
This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, allowing you to split your time between working remotely and being on-site at our Atlas Copco airpower site in Wilrijk.
