Your role

What does a technology and scouting engineer do within Atlas Copco Group research and development teams? How do you contribute to identifying the technologies that will shape future industrial solutions? 

 

As a technology and scouting engineer, you are involved in early-stage research and technology exploration, evaluating new ideas and emerging technologies that can be developed into next-generation solutions. You contribute to innovation by generating technical insights, supporting systems-level thinking, and translating scientific findings into practical development opportunities. 

 

In this role, you participate in concept creation, modelling, simulations, and data analysis to identify new opportunities and knowledge gaps within domains such as gas compression, thermal systems, energy recovery, and gas purification technologies. You evaluate the business and technical potential of new technologies through techno-economic assessments, feasibility studies, and experimental validation. 

 

You collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including researchers and technology partners, to assess how emerging technologies can support future product platforms. You also contribute to idea generation, proof-of-concept development, and knowledge sharing across the organization. 

 

You build and maintain a professional network of experts and researchers while supporting the identification and evaluation of disruptive technology opportunities that may create new business value. 

 

You report to the Systems & Scouting Team Leader.

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical, Process, Chemical, or Electromechanical Engineering. A PhD is a plus 
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics and fluid dynamics 
  • Broad knowledge of industrial or energy-related processes 
  • Analytical and critical thinking mindset with strong attention to detail 
  • Good English communication skills; Dutch is considered a plus

Job location

This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, allowing you to split your time between working remotely and being on-site at our Atlas copco airpower site in Wilrijk; Antwerp, Belgium (BE).
